the congregation gathered
watching,
praying
devout followers
of the masked god
the reveal, an omen
discouraged and encouraged
curiosity prevailed
the porcelain mask
crumbled
slowly,
piece by piece
spiraling into the ether
revealing the almighty
god
the parishioners gasped
staring into the darkness,
the void
emptiness
unmasked:
the
first god
and
the last
Chaos
with their
final words
the believers
wrote:
"chaos wears
a mask to be seen
without a mask
chaos swallows
everything
do not unmask
your gods"
~ Elizabeth Anne Ives

Sometimes the depth of poem drills deeper than art. This one certainly does. Well done, Elizabeth Anne.
